The past twelve months have been an exceptional year in the career of Henry Goodman. For his performance as Shylock in The Merchant Of Venice, directed by Trevor Nunn at the Royal National Theatre, he was awarded the Olivier Award for the Best Actor 1999 and also the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Actor in the same year. The production moved from the small Cottesloe to the large Olivier Theatre at the RNT and has now been filmed.
Other landmark performances include: Freud in Terry Johnson’s Hysteria (Royal Court Theatre and West End); Charles Guiteau in Assassins (Donmar Warehouse/Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical); Philip in Broken Glass by Arthur Miller (Royal National Theatre); Nathan Detroit in Guys And Dolls (Royal National Theatre); Billy Flynn in Chicago (Adelphi); Roy Cohn in Angels In America (RNT); Serge in Art (Wyndham’s Theatre), Tevye in Fiddler On The Roof (Savoy Theatre).

Henry Goodman grew up in the East End of London and trained at RADA. He lived for many years in South Africa, where he acted and directed before returning to the UK. He spends much of his spare time teaching and can be found throughout the year at RADA, BADA, Guildhall, The National Studio and the Actors’ Centre.
