Edward Hall

Edward Hall’s production of The Taming Of The Shrew with his Propeller Company is currently playing at the Watermill Theatre, Newbury. Early in the New Year it will be seen at the Old Vic alongside his Twelfth Night, before embarking on a world tour. Propeller is an all-male company which exists to present Shakespeare’s plays in a style contemporary to their writing.

Edward’s theatre productions as director include: Once In A Lifetime, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Edmond (National Theatre); A Streetcar Named Desire (Roundabout Theatre, New York); The Winter’s Tale, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night,  The Comedy Of Errors, Henry V, Othello (Propeller at the Watermill Theatre, Newbury); Calico (Duke of York’s); The Hinge Of The World (Guildford); Macbeth (Albery Theatre); Rose Rage (adapted with Roger Warren from Henry VI, Parts 1,2 And 3)(Haymarket Theatre, Watermill Theatre, UK/international tour, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Duke’s Theatre, New York); The Constant Wife (Apollo); Putting It Together (Chichester); Julius Caesar, The Two Gentlemen Of Verona (RSC); Tantalus (Denver Centre, Barbican and UK tour); Sacred Heart (Royal Court Theatre Upstairs); Celaine (Hampstead Theatre); That Good Night (Yvonne Arnaud tour); Richard III (Tokyo Globe); Cain (Minerva Studio, Chichester).

Of the Propeller Shakespeare productions at the Watermill, The Winter’s Tale went on a world tour; The Comedy Of Errors and Henry V went to the Pleasance Theatre, London; the RSC Other Place, Stratford, and international tour); Othello went to the Tokyo Globe and A Midsummer Night’s Dream transferred to the Comedy Theatre, London and then went to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, where he and the production were nominated for Drama Desk Awards. Rose Rage won the TMA Award for Best Touring Production and in New York it won four Jeff Awards including Best Play, Best Director and Best Ensemble Cast.

Television includes: Trial And Retribution (La Plante Productions), Miss Marple – Sleeping Murder (starring Geraldine McEwan), Cutting Edge; Safari Strike, Richard III.

Radio includes: Dear Exile, Eveline, Into Exile.

Future work includes: Dick Whittington adapted by Mark Ravenhill at the Barbican at the end of the year and For Services Rendered by Somerset Maugham opening in March 2007 at the Watermill Theatre. He is Artistic Director of the Propeller Theatre Company
