Jack Holden: The Art of Multi-Roling

Masterclass

Date

28 January 2026

Time

2pm - 3.30pm

Venue

The Other Palace (SW1E 5JA)

Join acclaimed writer, actor and director Jack Holden (Kenrex, Cruise) for a Masterclass exploring the craft of building character and multi-roling in solo storytelling, and how to bring a whole world of people to life on stage.

Best known for his critically acclaimed one-man shows, Jack will delve into the techniques behind creating and sustaining dozens of distinct characters within a single performance. Through a practical exploration of physicality and vocality, he will examine how characters are shaped on the page and transformed in the body and voice, and how to move between them distinctly in front of an audience.

A number of participants will work with Jack on stage, experimenting with character creation and multi-roling techniques in real time. Observers will gain insight into the creative process and practical decision-making behind solo performance.

Jack will also explore the perspective of being an actor (credits include Ink and War Horse), a writer (The Line of Beauty), and often both at the same time, sharing how these roles inform one another, how to balance storytelling with performance, and how to remain truthful, specific, and alive when carrying an entire narrative alone.

The Masterclass will conclude with a Q&A, offering the opportunity to ask Jack about his process, career, and the challenges and freedoms of solo storytelling.
