Join us for a Masterclass with Olivier Award-winning director, designer, and performer, Finn Caldwell, as we discover the secret life of puppets. In 2022, Finn earned an Olivier Award for his work as Puppet Co-Designer on Life of Pi and received a nomination for Best Theatre Choreographer for the same production. His impressive portfolio includes roles as puppetry director and co-designer on shows such as The Lorax (Old Vic), Ocean at the End of the Lane (National Theatre and West End), and Grinning Man (Bristol Old Vic and West End).
Finn is passionate about the playful possibilities of puppetry to stage seemingly impossible moments and is committed to pursuing truth in the inner lives of the characters and creatures he conjures.

Biography
Finn is a director, designer and performer; he is co-artistic director of Gyre & Gimble, a theatre company specialising in puppetry. He was nominated for two Olivier Awards for his work on Life of Pi in 2022 and won for Best Design (co-nominated with Tim Hatley and Nick Barnes), with whom he was also nominated for Best Costume Design at the 2023 Tony Awards.
For Gyre & Gimble, as Co-Director/Puppet Designer, credits include: The Four Seasons: A Reimagining (Shakespeare’s Globe, Sam Wanamaker Playhouse); The Hartlepool Monkey (UK Tour) and The Elephantom (National Theatre/West End).
As Puppet Co-Designer/ Director, credits include: The Grinning Man (Bristol Old Vic/ West End) and Running Wild (Chichester Festival Theatre/ Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre/UK Tour).
As Director of Puppetry and Movement, credits include: The Ocean at the End of the Lane (National Theatre/West End/UK Tour), Angels in America (National Theatre/ Broadway); The Light Princess (National Theatre); War Horse (National Theatre/ West End/International Tour); Groundhog Day (Additional Movement/Old Vic/Broadway/Australia); Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax In Camera (Old Vic); The Bear (Puppetry Director/Pins & Needles); The Tempest (Birmingham Royal Ballet); Alice’s Adventures Underground, Adventures in Wonderland (Les Enfants Terrible); Ariodante (Festival Aix); Dream Space (Shakespeare’s Globe); Rubies in the Attic (Riverside Studios); Shrek: The Musical (West End); Climate (guildhall Theatre) and Tom Thumb (Edinburgh Festival/Tour).
