Rebecca Frecknall: The Director and The Ensemble

Join us at the Park Theatre for this on-stage Directing Masterclass with Olivier Award-winning director, Rebecca Frecknall.

The session will include an introduction to the idea of 'the ensemble’ and the director’s role within it, followed by a short on-stage workshop exploration and an audience Q&A.

A fantastic opportunity for actors, directors, designers and makers of all stripes to hear Rebecca’s insights about leading a creative rehearsal room and building a practice that is collaborative and ensemble-led.

How To Take Part

We are looking for a group of up to 8 performers to work with Rebecca Frecknall as part of her Masterclass. Performers should have worked to a professional level and have some experience in movement/be comfortable working physically.

  1. Book your place on Rebecca’s Masterclass on the button below. This masterclass is open to all members, you will have the chance to ask Rebecca questions and watch members workshop on stage.
  2. If you’d like the opportunity to work as part of the onstage ensemble, please email info@masterclass.org.uk with the subject heading REBECCA. Please attach your acting CV or spotlight link, and in your email, please highlight any movement experience, your credits at a professional level and a sentence about what you think makes you a good ensemble member.

Closing date for applications: 10am, Wednesday 29 June. If you have been chosen, you will be notified by Thursday 30 June. Even if you’re not chosen, please do book a place to attend!

Biography

Rebecca is an Olivier Award-winning director, who has directed in the UK and internationally, and is Associate Director at the Almeida.

Rebecca directed the award-winning production of Cabaret at the KitKat Club (Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Director and Best Musical Revival, Winner of the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Director), and the critically acclaimed Summer and Smoke, which opened at the Almeida before transferring to the West End. The production won the 2019 Olivier Award for Best Revival, and Rebecca was also nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Director. Rebecca’s production of Sanctuary City at the New York Theatre Workshop won the 2022 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Director of a Play.
