Event Production Internship with TheatreCraft

This Autumn, I've had the pleasure of working as the Events Production Intern on this year's TheatreCraft event.

I've been working closely with both the TheatreCraft team and the amazing group at the Royal Opera House, where the event takes place. Getting to be a part of something on this scale, in a venue as amazing as the Royal Opera House, has been a brilliant experience for me both professionally and personally. TheatreCraft brought together around 1000 attendees, almost 70 exhibitors and 12 West End venues, so I had the perfect opportunity to get hands-on experience and face-to-face contact with some of the most talented people in the industry.

My job as the Events Production Intern involved recruiting and managing volunteers, supporting exhibitors in the run-up to the event, and helping with day-of logistics. I got a chance to be involved with anything and everything, whether sorting volunteer schedules, collaborating with some of the biggest theatre companies in the country, or simply couriering boxes through Covent Garden at 6am!

The event day itself was easily my favourite part - seeing all the volunteers I'd worked with helping everything run smoothly, and watching the Royal Opera House fill up with people eager to learn more about career opportunities in theatre, was such a rewarding moment. I also loved getting to work with the rest of the TheatreCraft team, who have been spectacular at bringing together such a massive-scale event as such a tiny team (and for keeping spirits high in the office when we're all going a bit loopy).

Working on TheatreCraft really expanded on my skills within event production and event management. I've become more confident in managing people, handling fast-paced logistics and communicating across multiple organisations. The event has the most amazing energy, and I would recommend not only visiting the event but, if you've previously attended the event, volunteering for it, to truly get stuck in and just have a super fun day with the most fab group of people!
