Paid Internship: Sound
Deadline: 27 May 2025
Masterclass and Sonia Friedman Productions are offering a paid Sound Internship on the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is an exciting chance for someone with a passion for theatre, looking to gain hands-on experience and take the first steps to working in the sound department of a commercial theatre. This internship has been created in memory of Laura Head, a committed, valued and much missed member of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's Sound team.
About the Show:
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a uniquely complex and busy show, with over 40 cast members and a huge team off stage across multiple departments, all working together to realise the production. Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this play written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards, including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.
The Sound Intern will work backstage with the Sound team, learning the day-to-day running of the department and gaining practical experience of sound engineering for theatre.
Activities will include:
- Learning the day-to-day department roles
- Preparing and maintaining show plots
- Gaining practical backstage experience
- Meeting and chatting with the show’s sound designer
- Working closely with creatives and other departments to maintain production standards
The successful candidate will also be offered a one-year apprentice membership to The Association for Sound Design and Production at Future Professional level, for access to the ASDP's training, resources and events.
